Current Events Summery 6

Foreign Relations South Asia

In recent news Japan's Prime minister decided to use its rarely invoked override power to go around a previous law that had stopped Japanese war ships from helping fuel American ones in the Indian Ocean. These American warships are ones that are stationed near Afghanistan and the Prime Minister hopes to gain favor by showing some support for the war on terror. Though the prime minister hopes this will improve Japans international image, there has been much opposition with others stating that this decision to override the registration "lacks a UN mandate and violates the country's pacifist constitution". India's economy and trade market has been facing some great turmoil recently due directly to problems in the US trade market, which is a huge market for Indian exports and outsourcing contracts. Though there was a step fall of 5 percent and then another 7 percent, there has been some recent recovery. This also was a direct effect of the us trade market where the US federal reserve has decide to make biggest cuts to interest rates that they have seen in 25 years. Though this cut has given hope for some positive growth in Indian and general Asian and Europe markets, analyst are still strongly recommending people to watch the market with caution regarding the market for the next upcoming months. In more upcoming news many predict that countries, especially ones in Asia, that have in recent years become extremely active and powerful in the markets to face problems that have been plaguing the US to spread over to them. Trouble in the US could now decently mean a slower growth in Asia which has been sharing a strong and benifical trade with the US market. Sri LanKan has been facing recent tragedy in respect to its upcoming celebrations. Sri Lanka was in a state of celebrating its 60th anniversary of independence from Britain when a least 50 people died in a bus bombing. This bombing is suspected to most likely to have been set of by The Tigers. The Tigers are fighting rebels that have been fighting to make north and east Sri Lanka a independent state. Though these rebels originated in 1983, there has been an intense surge in the civil war in Sri Lanka recently as there has been much tension between the government and the rebles as well as other deadly bus attacks. An illegal organ trading "mastermind" from India has just be arrested in Nepal. Amit Kumar was found in a hotel in southern Nepal. India has asked Nepal to hand over the culprit so that he can face questioning on how he bribed hundreds of poor labors into illegally selling there kidneys and then reselling them to the wealthy in desperate need of a transplant. This sort of human organ trade is illegal and banned in India.

Project draft update 2

Project first draft
First Paragraph

Introduction
Over a wide range of time including WWII era to the late 20th century the people and the government have struggled with finding the near impossible, this being a clear and rightful balance between government control and the effect that control has on peoples individual reasponsiblity, personal freedom, and respect of human dignity. Within three different time periods we see a growth in the amount of freedom, responsibility, and dignity. Through the domestic policiys of WWII, the civil rights movement, and the presendency of we see a slow but determined growth in these important ideas (sample introduction paragraph, will deffently be changed in near future)

First paragraph
Demestic Policies WWII
1. Selective Service
A. Freedom- Selective Service system expanded draft to recruit needed soldiers. Opposed personal freedom because it was not a choice if you were drafted, this caused many to lose there freedom of choosing what they wanted to do.
B. Responsibility- Though being drafted into the army would give a person a greater amount of responsibility, it would not be personal responsibility because they are not personally taking responsibility for there actions this responsibility is something that is being almost forced upon them by the government.
C. Dignity- This idea did not really respect human dignity because people were drafted and sent out to fight and mabey even killed with out really even being given a choice. Also it did not offer much respect to women who wanted to become part of the war because they were forced to take jobs in the army that had very little to do with combat.
2. Rationing
A. Put extreme moneriting on the consumption of food and other products whict demonstrated not a lot of freedom because people lost some of there personal freedom when the government decided to control food and goods that were being distributed.
B. This actually showed growth in personal freedom because after the government established this system many people started to view it as there own personal responsibility to help out with the war and many people took up things such as car pooling and coping together as a family to help the countrie through the difficult time.
C. Rationing did little to help human dignity as many were forced to struggle with having very little also many lost respect for dignity when they started to purchase these items illegally off of the black market.

Connections: These two ideas come together to show that in this time period of war many had very little IR, PF, and HD. This connects to the theme that over the course og more time this will change and grow as we see a growth in IR, PF, and HD.

History Project Update

Project so far

Well i am still basically in the beginning stages of finding out information to write my essay about. I have gone through a little over half the chapter that I decided to use for supporting my thesis, though I am still not completely sure if i have decided on what exactly my thesis is going to be, and have taken several notes on subject matter with in the chapters that have to do with human dignity, individual responsibility, personal freedom and so on. I am still a little unsure about the direction that my project is going to be going in but a least I have begun to collect information that could be helpful and relevant later on.

Foreign Relations

In recent news china has come to new developments in its situation with India due to the claiming of Arunachal Pradesh, an Indian State as it's own. China has decided to allow a visa to be given to Marpe Sora, a professor from Arunachal's capital Itanagar. Many are hopeful that this is the beginning of China finally accepting Arunachal as part of Indian and not possessed by China itself.
China has also faced even more problems with the need to recall cans of toxic meat. This event is just one in a long line it seems of products that have needed to be recalled. These products are being exported to countries in Europe and the United states and this year large amounts of toys, tyers, and food have been recalled from the American Market. The government is now facing much pressure to insure safety in these Chinese made products due to increasing international concern. This has lead to steps such as trying to introduce a product recall system similar to the kind that the United States and many other countries currently have. Speculation still remains if a real deference can be archived in this matter. In more favorable news a planed bridge from Vietnam to China is now planed to be built with hopes to be up in 2012. This highway is set up to allow drivers to be able to make the journey from Hanoi, Vietnam to China in only one day. This extreme cut down in time will hopefully yield a resulting boast in the struggling economy in the north-west region in Vietnam. This bridge will show an increase in Vietnam ability to export goods like agricultural products to China. This bridge show be mutually beneficial as Chinese exporters will then experience a faster route to global markets. China is also remembering the Nanjing massacre. This occurred 70 years ago when Japanese soldiers killed 300,000 Chinese civilians, if Chinese this particular number is to believed, though the Japanese government claims that this figure is untrue. This has brought up some on going conflict between the citizens of the two counties. Some citizens wish for Japan to admit what they did while some citizens are frustrated with the dragging up of past events. Trade between the United states and China has suffered tension recently due to talks about how to lower Chinas trade surplus and stop the countries growing interdependence. Talks would center around China keeping the value on the yuan undervalued giving Chinese exports an unfair advantage. Both sides seem to still be deal with what to do with the China-US trade imbalance. China and Vietnam's dispute about the ownership of the Spartly and Paracel islands lead to a protest by several hundred Vietnamese citizens out side the Chinese Embassy. This tension is caused by the two countries both claiming ownership of these two islands that are quite valuable due to there large amount of oil and natural gas reserves. Other countries such as Taiwan and the Philippians also claim sovereignty over the islands. This had been an ongoing source of conflict for several years and is the driving force of many protest.
