Critical Thinking 15-4!

Which solution to an urban problem discussed in this section do you think had the most impact?

With the population of the cities in the United States rising quickly so were the problems that were cropping up. The city government had to deal with problems with housing, transportation, water supply, sanitation, crime. and fire.

The government had to struggle to create solutions to these demanding problems. One solution that had the most impact on improvement was the sanitation polices that were brought to the grimy smoky unclean cities(p. 470). With the growth of cities the problem of trying to keep them clean was also growing. Many cites grew to become dirty and grimy and had streets littered with trash and air that was filled with smoke. The cities went on to developed sewer lines and were opening sanitation departments. These things did not bring about an end to the sanitation problem, but they were steps in the right direction, leading to improvements in the cities and the lives of the people who inhabited them.
